法國石油鉅子Total(去年也入股過茂迪的AEP部份股權)買下美國PV 系統商 SunPower 60%股權, 除了本地的強權(First Solar)介入residentail market布局, 國際大咖也越來越多人在美國PV System Market備戰了, 大咖佈局者想的不外乎美國的PV操盤單位出手釋出更多PV善意方案的時間點越來越逼近 (either 經濟再次發生停滯現象 or 現有能源價格持續飆漲至critical point, 當然最後時間點還有2012 Obama總統保衛戰).

Satcon PV Inverter逆勢成長雖是已知新聞, 但是有幾點現象可以讓人看到Q1至今的市場現象(趨勢?)
Satcon 在 2011 Q1總共出貨達276MW當約量


Utility Scale (>100 kW)占了 240MW 約 87% (也說明Q1的市場是, 沒吃到肉的連湯都沒得喝).
北美地區成長強勁 132MW 占出貨量達 77%
亞洲地區20%
歐洲地區3%

強 - 強合作 或是 垂直整合公司包含終端市場系統端 (如: 聯電的永盛日前併購捷能, 或是台達電的旺能在美國發表完成MW level電廠) 將加速發生,

文章提到的是:
1. Q-Cell在美國一個30MW的project就是找Satcon合作.
2. Wipro EcoEnergy(Wipro是印度超大財團, 從機場到手機都搞的產業霸權)在印度的40MW電廠計畫.

全球庫存癡癡等, 本周將揭曉ITA是否進一步擴大補助限額?
根據報導目前官方最新資料顯示, 2020年23GW總量上限仍為官方底限(補助太好很容易超過), 並將補助限制範圍分兩階段:

Phase 1 (2011/6 ~ 2012/12):
caps placed on ground-mounted installations and on new FiTs at 3.1GW and €820 million respectively. Meanwhile, tariff rates for all installations are to be cut by 3-5% per month until the end of 2011, before being reduced by a further 8-12% in both the first and second half of 2012.


Phase 2 (2013~2016):
No formal capacity caps have yet been introduced for the second regulatory term (2013-16), although tariff reductions are expected to be steeper than the specified quarterly 4% if the specified total FiT cost threshold is exceeded.

會出現此議題, 當然是因為隨著Renewable Energy的成本降低, 使用量大增 比例上來說在可見的不久就能達到10%甚至20%, 這對寡占或獨佔的電業生態鏈來說是一種挑戰. 但是相信未來還是以電業主導的可能性較大, grid還是需要一個大玩家才能maintain好她的realiability.

看一下大老闆們在conference中所提的論點:
Scott Henneberry, VP of Smart Grid Strategy of Schneider Electric, said, “The utility has a real challenge to make sure everyone on the distribution line has good, reliable power.” He pointed out pilot programs that allow utilities to have control over the inverter of a consumer’s electric-vehicle charger or solar photovoltaic panel. He added that when utilities have some level of control it is beneficial to everyone because then the utility can manage the energy throughout the smart grid.

Larsh Johnson, CTO of eMeter, said that solving the problem of unreliability due to decentralized energy, “ultimately comes down to financial transactions,” and that metering electricity will be key. Apps will have to keep track of who bought energy and who sold it at every point in the process — “effectively, what’s going on on a wholesale transmission level.” In this way, the smart grid will function like the wholesale energy trading market, but the trading will happen among utilities, power plants and consumers.


according to Johnson. Hennenberry described a new vision of demand response, sometimes called the killer app of the smart grid. “Because of deregulated marketplaces, demand response is moving toward a more real-time automated activity,” he said.


As Andrew Tang, the managing director of ABB Ventures, pointed out, electric vehicles not only require a significant amount of energy, but because of people’s work commutes, the demand happens at peak times. Renewable energy sources are not as reliable as base load energy (nuclear, coal or natural gas sources), so Tang said utilities need to have spinning reserves for when those sources aren’t available.

對於合作範圍, 主要為12.5kW的inverters 目標客戶為 100kW 的系統, 會加強與SolardEdge合作的原因是於去年的客戶回報發電狀況中, 客戶讚賞其發電優化的能力:

在市場處於買家市場的情況下, PV Inverters Market, SMA持續擴張外具有其他利基型的高價solution也持續受市場接受.(當然主要也是產品夠穩定, 保固達12~20年)

前不久曾經思考過類似的問題, 其實電網與電信網路是很相似基礎建設 也可能會有類似的商業模式, 目前澳洲 ActewAGL電力公司做的更多, 她不只提供多種電力費率的選擇方案, 還提供上網 電視 電話 甚至安全監控等service, 這點與歐美等電信商積極進入能源產業恰好相反. (由能源業, 逆向整合).  其實台灣也是電信業主導整合的趨勢, CHT (IEN, MOD), TWM (併購有線電視凱雷, 同集團還有momo購物等通路), 全家的月付型消費的現金流都直接進入這些聰明財團手中.

 
不過不管誰整誰 只要
  • 基礎設施夠完備(grid infrastructure), smart grid? world wide/national-wide grid standard.
  • 多樣的選擇性(multiple fare package), 像是高額月租吃到飽 或是有限度的月租+高額的額外使用費
  • 夠開放(flexible distributor), 像是MVMO
 
最終這兩類公司是有可能進行大規模整合, 且相信很快 就會玩出類似電話費率 這麼多樣的商業模式.

最有可能在美國行程強是泡沫紅茶店的人選出來了, First Solar 宣布踏入小型PV System市場, 目前對於此市場規模規畫的range 為10kW~30kW.

大 小 齊攻, 這類的布局越來越多 搭配美國政府不斷釋出的上下游投資 隱隱覺得美國市場即將出現爆發性成長 只是市場型態與廠商的戰場在何處是其他眾多台灣廠商急需思考的問題.

包含中國在內的亞洲PV Cell列強, 政府的補助通常集中在上游生產端, 但是美國政府卻在系統端投入重金. US DOE宣布投入 $1.187 billion 金融貸興建250MW的Solar PV Plant, SunPower是這個計畫的stake-holder, 因為此計畫SunPower從此將擺脫只製造Solar Panel的工廠, 進而與First Solar並列為First tier的美國utility scale PV 列強.

全球PV市場冷清清的時候, 讓SunPower VP與我們分享難掩喜悅的一段話:
As SunPower VP Julie Blunden said, "This is the power industry. We're putting in a power station, which two years ago -- the concept did not exist. We are behaving like any power plant developer, trying to provide a thoughtful design and be a good neighbor."

Google再度出重金於美國加州Mojave沙漠投資興建第一個電廠級的Solar Plant(上星期在德國柏林附近的18.65MW PV Plant在他們定義稱為PV Park 不是電廠級 utility scale), 不過這次不是PV 而是 Solar thermal走集熱式, concentrating lenses to tap into the sun’s heat. 當然這一大筆錢不是亂投, 而是有政府基金共同投資, 達$300 million.(USD).

注資公司 (目前為止, 似乎都已注資的方式投資電廠): startup BrightSource Energy

Google says with the BrightSource deal, its investments in clean power have now hit $250 million. Google launched its “RE < C " program back in 2007, which is geek speak for Google’s renewable energy cheaper than coal project. The goal is to spend “tens of millions of dollars on R&D,” and ultimately produce a “gigawatt of renewable energy capacity,” over several years.

日前台灣媒體謠傳Google將要進入台灣彰濱工業區興建大型PV Plant(至今相關的公司股票是炒高了, 但是也沒有後續消息出現).

Google還是決定先從最硬的市場直接下手, 將於德國柏林投資USD $5 million興建18.65MW的PV Plant, 不過值得注意的是, Google是以投資私募基金公司的方式進行投資, 主要應該也是考量這些 "在地的金主" 在 "政治流程與金融貸款" 的優異 "行政效率" 吧.

美國PV Inverter強者 Satcon Q1'11財報也因市況不明而低頭, 不過雖然不符預期數據(Actual: USD $61~$63 million , Expected: USD $65~$70 million ) 與Q1'10相比 (USD $14.7 million) 這家公司的營收成長還是相當恐怖的.

Satcon 看好的市場主要集中在美國與加拿大, 並持續樂觀看待2011年全年度需求.

對於Q1'11表現不如預期(比去年成長超過4倍 還叫做不如預期... 這要其他PV Inverter廠情何以堪), 表示主要因為越來越多準備興建電廠的客戶將訂單交貨時間往後遞延.

走過經濟衰退後, 未來不在是各個都能水漲船高的時代, 參考看看BW觀察到的兩種勝負公司 為何而勝與為何而敗

勝部:
• Balance. Investments in breakthrough advancements were offset with spending on incremental innovations. While the rewards of home-run products are potentially very high, their associated risks are even higher. Winning companies don't bet all their chips on blue-sky projects.

• Prioritize. Focus on product development projects that align with both market needs and the company's overall business strategy. Struggling to satisfy customer desires is only beneficial when it advances your company's longer-range objectives.

• Analyze. Overcome the largest risk in product innovation—products that customers won't buy—by analyzing customer feedback quickly to ensure delivery of products the market is actually asking for. If a product idea is going to fail, or meet only 80 percent of customer expectations, it is a huge advantage to find that out as soon as possible, drop the idea, and move on to other, more appealing projects.

• Automate. Top performers delivered products on time by using technology to manage requirements, administer workflow, and prioritize development. Too many companies rely on slower, less reliable manual processes.

敗部:
• Not listening. Failure to hear and consider the expressed needs of customers. Those diverse voices must be considered, reconciled, and balanced to develop a truly successful product.

• Not collaborating. Failing to share information and collaborate with customers, partners, suppliers, and other key stakeholders in exploring new ideas. For struggling companies, fewer than half their product ideas came from these sources.

• Misalignment. Too often senior management and product-line staff fail to communicate, which often results in their spending time and money on the wrong product priorities.

• Uncertainty. The lack of clear decision-making and confusion over product-line ownership leads to decisions based on internal politics, subjectivity, personal influence, and debate skills rather than product merits.

• Paperwork. Paper-based methods and other traditional innovation management processes slow down the development life cycle, especially for complex products.

• Poor execution. Struggling companies have trouble planning the resources needed to match market opportunities, difficulty managing multiple teams and regions, and a hard time managing the risks associated with new and existing products.

2010年度的 GW的庫存 目前還有不少放在冷凍庫:
IMS states that during the quarter, shipments remained strong despite less demand and high inventory levels, and that factory-gate prices fell 4% overall. The company expects further declines and very weak demand in the first and second quarters of 2011, and notes that several GW of inventory is currently held throughout the supply chain.

除了Wal-Mart, 美國Costco也加快太陽光電kits銷售佈點, 這類的kits強調的是easy wired, 不論是mounting或是接線都有類似快速接頭的設計. (Generic Mounting, Generic Wired). 商品提供商 Grape Solar 如是說:

“For the first time, a leading retailer with numerous locations, quality recognition and tens of millions of loyal customers has made it possible for end users to buy high-quality solar products at great prices and have the products delivered directly to their homes in a matter of days .”

目前在美國Costo提供的ready-to-install的home system range如下:
880W, 2300W, 3680W or 5060W.

該公司同時強調, 客戶可以應用其Generic Wired, Mounting在日後Panel成本持續降低下慢慢擴增容量.

這大地一聲響之下, 應該會對美國home market有不小的影響吧. (不過對於其他DIY風氣不盛的國家 可能是另一個故事了).

澳洲大概是目前唯一不斷傳出對於PV Market友善新聞的國家, 新政府不僅在下議院取得壓倒性勝利, 更承諾要加速發產太陽能源.

The Liberal Party has proposed the introduction of a Gross Feed in Tariff (FIT) for households, institutions and businesses for PV installations, putting the Parliamentary Secretary in charge of reaching a 20 percent renewable energy target by 2020, and holding a Solar Summit.

在經濟效益仍無法到達民間需求的驅動點之前, 能靠的就是政府政策, 而目前世界各國政府持續冷凍的效應下, 民意與在野政營的集結可能反過來影響政策或由人民直接透過選票搬開這些石頭.

 Liberal Party election documents also suggest that solar energy will be paid greater attention to over the coming years, which comes as a surprise to some, considering the Liberal/National coalition is a more right of centre Party and thus has traditionally been more conservative in its policy-making.
